[Calgary] Dancing for the Screen!
Learn the Dance. Perform the Scene. Get the Footage.
Offered every month, SAA takes a memorable dance scene from a movie, television show, or iconic music video — and you get to learn it, perform it, and put it on camera.
Monday’s 6:30PM – 8:30PM, Nov 2, 9, 16, 23 2026.
SAA Calgary: 100 6 Ave SW, Calgary, AB T2P 0P5
Think about the screen moments that made you want to get up and dance.
From Glee, Wednesday, and Stranger Things, to movies like Barbie, Dirty Dancing, and La La Land — and even iconic music videos like Michael Jackson's Thriller — dance has created some of the most memorable moments ever captured on camera.
But here's the thing:
Dance isn't just for musicals.
Some of the most unforgettable dance moments happen in movies and television that aren't musicals at all. Think of the legendary dance between Uma Thurman and John Travolta in Pulp Fiction, the unforgettable dinner-table sequence in Beetlejuice, or countless moments where a character suddenly breaks into movement and the scene becomes something audiences never forget.
Dance is a valuable skill for actors. Commercials, music videos, film, television, theatre, and even auditions can call for actors who can move, learn choreography, and perform with confidence.
So why not learn some of the greatest dance sequences ever put on screen?
Dancing for the Screen! is an ongoing SAA dance performance series where every month, we take on a new and unforgettable dance sequence from a popular film, television show, or music video.
Over four classes, you'll learn the choreography, develop your movement and performance skills, rehearse the complete sequence, and prepare to bring the scene to life on camera.
Lights. Camera. Dance!
In the final class, you'll perform the completed sequence on camera and receive professional footage you can use for social media and your showcase reel.
You don't need to be a professional dancer.
You just need to be ready to learn it, perform it, and have fun doing it.
What iconic scene will we tackle next?
