THE FILMMAKING JOURNEY

You won't spend 10 weeks making dozens of disconnected exercises. You'll work together toward a shared production.
A screenplay will be selected for the cohort, developed and prepared for production. Students will participate in the filmmaking process across development, pre-production, production and post.
Then you'll shoot it. And the film doesn't simply disappear when the class ends.
Students will learn post-editing! After learning the leading post production softwares, students will be grouped and perform string edits. The chosen string edit will receive professional post-production finishing, including professional editing, sound and colour.
You'll experience the process of taking a project from script → set → screen.
That's the difference between studying filmmaking and actually experiencing the filmmaking process.

DEVELOPMENT
From idea to a production-ready story.
Explore the foundations of screenwriting, story development, character, script analysis, intellectual property, financing, producing, budgeting and the business realities behind getting a project made.
You'll also learn how filmmakers evaluate a project before the cameras ever roll.
PRE-PRODUCTION
This is where the film starts becoming real.
Learn how the major pieces come together before production — casting, working with actors, locations, storyboards, cinematography, production design, scheduling, budgeting and production planning.
You'll begin making the decisions that determine what can actually be achieved on set.

PRODUCTION
Put the plan into action.
Step onto the set and experience the filmmaking ecosystem in practice.
Explore directing, camera, lenses, lighting, sound, production management, assistant directing, wardrobe, makeup, set protocol, safety and the communication required to keep a production moving.
Your cohort will put these skills into practice while shooting its short film.

POST-PRODUCTION & RELEASE
Getting the film finished is only half the job.
Students will learn the fundamentals of editing using DaVinci Resolve, then work in groups to create their own string edits of the production. The cohort will review the different editorial approaches, and a professional editor will complete the final film, supported by professional sound and colour finishing.

Upon completion of program, students will receive a digital copy of the film and a certificate of completion.
And to keep film tradition alive, we will hold a wrap party in our event hall. Students will help organize a graduation screening event where family, friends, talent agents, industry professionals and members of the public can come together to watch the finished film.

Learn the filmmaking ecosystem by actually participating in it.

You'll learn how filmmakers communicate with writers, producers, financiers, grant holders, directors, actors, cinematographers, editors, sound professionals, production designers, casting professionals and more.
And instead of simply learning about filmmaking...

The goal is to make you a more capable, informed and production-ready independent filmmaker — someone who understands how the pieces fit together, can communicate across departments, and knows what it takes to move a project forward.

This program gives you practical experience across the filmmaking process, from development and pre-production through production, post-production and release.
It also strengthens your future talent portfolio. Your cohort film will be produced using professional equipment, with guidance from experienced instructors who already work in the film and television industry.
