The Screen Acting Room Program is a part-time, comprehensive training program structured across four levels (two levels per semester, each consisting of five classes). Designed to equip students with everything they need to succeed as film and television actors, including other media platforms such as video gaming, this program combines both technique and application in a thoughtfully crafted In-Person with Limited Online Sessions format.

Each level includes a blend of online and in-studio classes, however, primarily in-studio:

  • In-studio sessions provide the opportunity to apply, refine, and explore these techniques in a hands-on environment—bridging the gap between theory and performance.

  • Online sessions are hyper-focused on building a strong foundation in proven acting techniques and theory, providing efficient and effective learning from home. These sessions also include performance evaluations by Mike Migliara, a seasoned expert in on-screen performance with over 25 years of experience as a casting director.

Through this dynamic structure, students will progressively develop the skills, confidence, and on-camera presence needed to thrive in the professional acting world. For the breakdown of online vs. in-studio sessions, see the level descriptions below.

Full course overview: this program will offer students a well-rounded overview of a screen actor’s responsibility, from both a professional and creative standpoint. Class frequency is once a week. Each level has a total of 5 classes. Students will gain a clear understanding of the most trustworthy acting techniques used today. SAA’s curriculum upholds traditional methods and at the same time, educates their students with new acclimating concepts; spotlighting the student’s idiosyncrasies, their castability, and marketability. Because of these reasons, SAA is the preferred training center, providing a real-life atmosphere from day one. In addition, students will learn how to safely access their emotional and vulnerable selves, make strong choices bearing emotional weight, and gradually work toward larger roles that require characterization—all while remaining believable and truthful on screen.

In this program, the majority of class time is spent working in studio. This provides students unbreakable confidence. Being on-camera becomes second nature. Everything you will learn will not only be useful on-screen but also in everyday life. An audition introductory reel (3 audition clips) and a certificate of achievement are included in our enrolment.

  • 4 In Studio, 1 Online. The best way to begin is through the power of your imagination. This entry-level course provides a wonderful opportunity for students to begin to understand the process of becoming a screen actor and safely explore what works individualistically for every single one of our students. Through comprehensive 20 minute lectures and visual presentations, Level 1 will introduce and discuss key acting techniques used in the field and what is required and expected from the working actor. The remaining class time will be dedicated to performing scenes and how to bring them to an industry standard delivery. Focus will be placed on Hagen and Adler based theories and techniques.

  • Upon completion of Level 1:

    4 In-Studio, 1 Online. In level 2, students will continue their 20 minute lectures and practical “on your feet” training by working through a series of larger scenes, intermediate acting exercises and improvisations. Students will be introduced to camera awareness techniques in our multi-camera studio. Meisner based theory and exercises will be explored. Students will develop strong communication skills though body and movement, recognize the power and importance of intonation for landing scenic dialogue, and elevate their artistry toward making scene choices that will serve at a competitive level in the market.

  • Upon completion of Level 2:

    3 In-Studio, 2 online. At level 3, students will begin working on developing The Character while harmonizing the student’s individualistic creativity. All classes of level 3 are on-camera at our multi-camera studio. Industry related terms used on film sets will be echoed until masterful working habits form. We will introduce key language such as “coverage”, the actor’s “on camera presence”, and others. Students will receive their scene footage via a cloud base software on a weekly basis. This allows class time to be entirely devoted to performing on camera instead of insufficient playbacks . Instead, valuable feedback from our industry professionals is marked on the tape at the precise moment of where an improvement is needed and can be easily reviewed at any time and at the student’s convenience. Finally, students will be introduced to the world and artistry of auditioning.

  • Upon completion of level 3:

    3 In-Studio, 2 Online. Level 4 students will apply the critical foundations taught in the previous levels, and merge all their skills into the final performance: the audition!

    Level 4 students will apply the critical fundamentals taught in the previous levels, and will fuse all their pragmatic skills into self-tape and in-person audition performances that will be used as a springboard for their introductory showcase clips. This is a great approach for our graduate students looking to approach an agent, and score immediate representation.

    Level 4 is the final step in perfecting the artistic, technical and commercial facets of dramatic art. It includes the introduction into building your talent portfolio, marketing and career strategies for the actor, talent agency knowledge, self tape submissions, and how to increase your visibility in the market.

  • Only SAA Honorarium Graduates selected from Level 4, by the artistic director and founder of SAA, Mike Migliara, are eligible for this hybrid career management course. This Honorarium Level will provide graduates with robust business strategies, starting with the understanding of their type-cast and further, how to capitalize on it. On the opposite end of the spectrum, we continue the discussion by exploring growth. Typically, what’s not in your wheelhouse and how we can move forward with obtaining further range and showcase it. The end goal is to introduce and get siged with a reputable talent agent(if the SAA Graduate has no agent at the time), and more talent portfolio items by which increases the actor’s marketability, visibility on media platforms, including social media.
