Course title says it all: this workshop’s sole focus is to advance your acting career, as fast as possible, period!
Migliara has created an uncluttered, comprehensive acting system, which includes SAA’s Audition Guideposts - Finally! An audition process that is easy, fast, and proven as reliable. Migliara’s acting system uniquely includes business strategies for actors, with marketing, and growth in focus - by which he refers to as “audition strategy and career management”. His system has proven effective, with many students exceeding expectations every semester: booking auditions, landing roles, and getting signed by reputable talent agents.
This workshop gives a complete overview of an actor’s life: mastering the craft, getting the job, and keeping it.
Migliara's approach is invaluable, and unlike any other. He will share his unique methodology that encomposses four areas:
- Academic background: students will get an overview of the most effective, sought-after acting techniques out there.
[Spanning over two generations, Migliara accepted a “chance of a lifetime” opportunity in 1998 and left school for a full-time job as a casting associate. He later returned to Concordia University, and completed his Theatre and Film Degree in 2012, refreshing his theory with relevance. Mike is regarded by his students as “the acting guru” and to many others as a “mentor”. He has dedicated his life to the study of screen acting and helping actors achieve their dreams.]
- Casting Director: students will get a comprehensive understanding of the casting process, and how to navigate toward lead casting against a cluster of roles.
[Migliara has cast over 200 media projects, Many of which have sold in mass markets with international success. During his casting journey, Mike was among the most sought-after audition coaches due to his keen eye and directorial work ethic. He regularly coached and grew with some of the biggest Canadian household names: Michael Mando, Tim Rozon, Cindy Sampson, to name a few.]
- Pre-Production, Development, and Distribution: students will discover the entire content creation process which will help understand the value of the actor’s idiosyncrasies, their castability, and marketability.
[Migliara’s experiences goes beyond casting. His involvement in production is extensive, working closely with esteemed producers and directors. Mike worked for Atlas Grove Entertainment during its infancy as a Sales Associate. He is currently a development producer for Knightshoot Media and is successfully pitching scripted and unscripted content to some of Canada’s biggest production companies and buyers.]
- On-Set Life: Students will learn essential on-set work practices, rehearsal techniques, and healthy regimens to preserve focus and energy.
[Mike’s extensive work on film sets is in the directorial department. Throughout his career, Mike serves as various on-set titles, including cast support, wrangler, 1st and 3rd A.D. Mike worked with award winning creatives such as George Clooney, Larry Franco, Kathleen Kennedy, Francine Maisler, Mark Waters, Denis Villeneuve, and Jim Donovan to name a few.]
His extensive experience offers a rare opportunity to master the skills that lead to successful auditions. Additionally, Mike provides a strategist and a self-managerial system for actors, empowering them to maintain long and healthy careers.
Workshop structure:
Students will receive a Migliara’s Simple Audition Checklist: 10 simple guideposts.
Scene Study: students will discuss ways on how to improve their scene choices, and upgrade their potential in castibilty for larger speaking roles.
From Migliara’s audition library, students will watch and discuss techniques used by professionals actors that book all year round.
Student’s will discover Migliara’s audition strategy and management system.
Student’s will scrutinize their own self tape performances and apply Mike’s remedies to improve callback ratios.
Student’s will discuss submission strategy: which includes talent agent harmonization, headshots, and marketability. (i.e. things like: should I tape for this? Should I ask for an extension? etc)
Chain of Command: Who is who? Discuss key departments in production, what they do, and how this impacts the actor.
Tax credits and cast eligibility: how to benefit from these common requirements.
Demystify the audition “rules” that are out there, hurting actors and their growth potential.
