Wednesday’s 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM
Starts May 14 and ends June 4 2025
Ages: 15+
The Character Lab is SAA’s low priced monthly workshop dedicated to helping actors stay creatively sharp and consistently evolve in their craft. Designed as an ongoing training ground, this space encourages exploration, risk-taking, and deeper connection to character work. After all, readiness to instantly play several characters for auditions and on-set work is the goal, right? That’s what the Character Lab is here for.
May 2025: Join academically acclaimed actor Felipe Moura for an immersive in depth Character Study designed to deepen your connection to your craft. ***Last class will be recorded***
Unlock the heart of powerful performance in a dynamic, hands-on course designed to immerse actors in the craft of character study & development. Through a blend of script analysis, physical exploration, improvisation, and psychological insight, students will learn how to build authentic, layered, and emotionally resonant characters from the ground up.
From dissecting a character’s backstory and objectives to embodying their voice, movement, and internal life, actors will develop the tools to transform text into truth. The course emphasizes process over product, encouraging risk-taking and self-discovery as students work individually and in ensemble settings. Scenes and monologues from stage and screen will serve as vehicles for exploration, culminating in a final performance that reflects each actor’s growth and depth.
Whether you're preparing for the stage, screen, or auditions, this course will sharpen your instincts, expand your range, and deepen your connection to the characters you bring to life.
